International Dark Sky Week April 13-20

Get ready to GO DARK: International Dark Sky Week is almost here (April 13-20)

Each year in April, around the new moon, our global community comes together to celebrate International Dark Sky Week This year, the celebration begins on Monday, April 13, inviting people everywhere to go dark with us by stepping outside, getting to know the night a little better, and building support for its protection.

While many already understand that the night is vital to life on Earth, others are just beginning to realize its importance. This week of learning and exploration helps grow that awareness.

We invite you to join the celebration by attending an event near you or tuning in to one of DarkSky’s Virtual Seminars  throughout the week.

You may know that Fenwick Island has adopted a DarkSky Resolution that states:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that Fenwick Island will support

the Ad Hoc Dark Sky Committee to inform residents, visitors, builders, and developers within Fenwick Island of the values, benefits, and opportunities for DarkSky initiatives. Such educational efforts can be undertaken through public forums, published information, social media, and dark sky celebrations to share knowledge about the deleterious effects of light pollution on delicate ecosystems and human health, as well as proven procedures that can be implemented to limit light pollution.

Please consider becoming active with the Fenwick Island DarkSky Committee which meets monthly and is planning several exciting events in 2026.  Contact Town Hall for more information.

However you choose to take part, we hope you take a moment to step outside, dim the lights, and experience the night. Then share the wonder and importance of the night with someone else. Learn more at idsw.darksky.org
