DARKSKY Symposium Recordings Now Available
Due to technical difficulties, the recent Fenwick Island DarkSky Symposium that took place on August 5th was not available for Zoom. Our keynote speaker (Ruskin Hartley, CEO of DarkSky International) shared an informative presentation on the importance of dark skies, the causes of light pollution and how we can make relatively simple decisions to use outdoor lights responsibly…which benefit wildlife, plants, human health, energy conservation and which preserve the heritage of our starry night skies.
Key takeaway: Light itself is not the problem…the problem is lighting choice…it’s choosing the right lights to save energy, improve nighttime visibility, protect environment and preserve our night skies
The symposium recording is now available for your review (see links below). If you agree with any of the statements below, then you will find great value in this program.
- I want to know more about “DarkSky” – what is it and why should I care?
- I want to save money on my electric bill.
- I want to understand how the “right kind” of outdoor lighting can make me feel safe and secure at night.
- I want to help protect the environment, since lights can impact many animals, birds and pollinators that are active at night.
- I don’t want bright lights shining into my home at night.
- I have a neighbor with really bright outdoor lights (what can I do?).
- I want to be a good neighbor.
- I want to know more about Fenwick Island’s lighting ordinance.
- I enjoy viewing the stars and planets at night.
If you have any questions about DarkSky principles…or if you want to get involved with the Fenwick Island DarkSky Committee…please reach out to Town Hall at 302-539-3011.

DarkSky Symposium Update
We regret to share that our DarkSky Symposium was targeted by a Zoom bombing incident. Due to this security breach, we will unfortunately not be opening the event to live Zoom attendees as originally planned.
However, we are recording the full symposium and will be posting it to our website shortly for everyone to view at their convenience.
We appreciate your understanding and continued support of our efforts to protect our night skies.
